The Privatisation of Prisons and Prison-Related Services Inquiry Print E-mail

An inquiry into the privatisation of prisons and prison-related services is presently being conducted by the Legislative Council. The Council has asked for submissions on the impact of privatisation on public safety and rates of escape; the incidence of assault on inmates and staff; disciplinary breaches; overcrowding; prisoner classification levels; rehabilitation programmes, mental health support services and recidivism rates and staffing levels and employee conditions. The Council has also asked for submissions on the accountability mechanisms available in private prisons.
